Hargreaves left out of Manchester City's Champions League squad

Despite only signing for the club on Wednesday, Owen Hargreaves has been omitted from Manchester City’s squad for the Champions League group stages.

OWEN HARGREAVES HAS been left out of Manchester City’s 25-man squad for the group stages their first ever Champions League campaign, raising new concerns about his fitness after he completed his move from Manchester United.

The 30-year-old midfielder only managed six minutes of football in his last two seasons at United. Hargreaves suffered from chronic tendinitis while at Old Trafford, with calf, hamstring and shoulder problems making matters worse.

Hargreaves will now miss clashes against his former club Bayern Munich, as well as matches against Villareal and Napoli.

He believes, however, that once he has trained sufficiently he will be of massive benefit to his new club.

Hargreaves said: “It’s important that you get back into a rhythm of playing football and I haven’t done that for a while.

“There are tons of games to come this season in various competitions. It’s a fantastic group of players here and I hope that I’ll be a good addition to these guys to help out.”
