TWO KENYAN WORLD champions are set to lead the international invasion at this year’s Spar Great Ireland Run.
World cross-country champion Japhet Korir and women’s 3000m steeplechase champion Milcah Chemos will both race in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 6 April.
The run, which is Ireland’s largest mixed 10km, is recognised by athletics governing body IAAF and traditionally attracts some of the sport’s biggest names.
Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele, a three-time Olympic champion, won the men’s race in 2012 and 2013.
Now Korir, one of the rising stars of world athletics, will look to take up the mantle. The 20-year-old won the world cross-country title in Bydgoszcz, Poland last year.
Chemos, 28, won the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the World Championships in Moscow last summer.
Her Irish opposition will be led by Fionnuala Britton, who is to take part in the race for the first time since 2011.
