GLENN WHELAN IS the latest Irish player to pick up an injury ahead of next week’s meeting with Germany.
The Stoke City midfielder lasted just 20 minutes of their Premier League draw with Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon after pulling up with a hamstring problem.
Ireland have Keith Andrews and Keith Fahey back from suspension and injury respectively but are already without the services of Richard Dunne and Kevin Doyle while Sean St Ledger and James McClean are doubts for Friday’s World Cup qualifier at the Aviva Stadium.
David Meyler and Robbie Brady have also been called up the squad as late additions.
An FAI statement read: “Glenn Whelan came off with a hamstring injury after 20 minutes in Stoke’s match against Liverpool today. He will undergo a scan in Dublin tomorrow morning before any further decision is taken on his fitness.
“A decision on both Sean St Ledger and James McClean’s fitness will also be made tomorrow after scans on their respective injuries.”
