MOMENTS AFTER MARCEL KITTEL won his second stage of the 2014 Giro d’Italia on Sunday, he collapsed to the ground, exhausted.
The German, winning his second sprint finish in as many days, was clearly distressed. However, instead of helping him to his feet, one young cycling fan decided it was the perfect opportunity to take a ‘selfie’ with the cyclist.
Unsurprisingly, the move didn’t go down well with cycling fans around the world and today the self-described ‘selfie king’ apologised for his actions, an apology Kittel retweeted once it was brought to his attention by Nicholas Roche.

Sadly for Kittel, his week has gone from bad to worse as he was forced to pull out of the Giro through illness today.
