THE STORMERS SUFFERED a 22-17 defeat to the Reds in Brisbane this morning, but it was the serious injury to fullback Gio Aplon that will have caused most concern for some of the South African side’s supporters.

The 17-times capped Springbok put his left hand out to slow his fall after being tackled by Reds prop James Slipper in the first half, before his elbow gave way under the pressure. The earliest medical updates say Aplon will now miss eight weeks of action, as surgery is not needed.

Stormers’ fans will hope to see the counter-attacking specialist back on the pitch this season, particularly with Aplon set to leave the club at the conclusion of the current campaign. The 31-year-old is set to join Bernard Jackman’s Grenoble in the Top 14 for the 2014/15 season.

It’s good to see that the pacy fullback is in good spirits following the injury. Get well soon Gio!
