A CAR CRASH left two people injured after an accident during filming at Germanyโs pre-World Cup training camp in north Italy, the German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed.
Police in Italyโs south Tirol said two people were injured, one seriously, after being hit by a car carrying German Touring Car Masters (DTM) driver Pascal Wehrlein.
Two member of Germanyโs World Cup squad, Schalke pair Benedikt Hoewedes and Julian Draxler, were passengers in separate cars but both were unharmed.
Wehrlein and Formula One driver Nico Rosberg were visiting the German team in the south Tirol to film an advertisement for Mercedes Benz, who sponsor the DFB.
Rosberg and Wehrlein were driving separate cars when the accident happened on a road closed to the public and those injured are thought to have been holidaymakers.
A DFB spokesman confirmed there had been a โserious accidentโ, but none of the German squad had been hurt and they said they will be working closely with the relevant authorities as the incident is investigated
โThe accident occured during a visit to the training camp of the German Football Association (DFB),โ said Mercedes in a statement.
DTM racing driver Pascal Wehrlein was driving on a closed road when he injured two people who had unexpectedly appeared on the track.
โBoth people are receiving medical treatment and the driver wasnโt hurt.
โWe regret the accident and we wish those injured a speedy recovery.โ
The DFB are holding their 10-day training camp in the north Italian Alps which concludes on Saturday before their first World Cup match in Group G against Portugal in Salvador on June 16.
