Here's what the German media are saying after John O'Shea ruined their victory plans

WE’RE ALL PRETTY happy today with the current state of the Irish soccer team.

A 1-1 draw away to the World champions has the habit of boosting confidence and there’s plenty good vibes swirling about in the wake of John O’Shea’s memorable injury-time equaliser. Ireland stay unbeaten are joint top with Poland in Group D of the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

But what’s the German view in the wake of last night’s draw? After the glory in Brazil last July, there’s been a couple of stumbles by Joachim Löw’s side since then. Defeat to Poland last Saturday was followed by last night’s game where they battered Ireland for much of the night yet only had a Toni Kroos strike to show for it before O’Shea equalised.

’1-1 against Ireland: Bitter! –  No Victory Again!’

That’s the headline in Bild as they bemoan a second successive qualification game where Germany failed to claim victory.

“Clearly, something more creative would have done well against Ireland. What disturbs rather, are the many lapses of concentration, bad passes and arrogance. A world champion should never act negligently or arrogant.”

‘Shock at the last minute’

Der Tagesspiegel pointed to how the German team was left reeling by O’Shea’s last gasp strike past Manuel Neuer.

Is Podolski’s time expired?

On the Frankfurter Allgemeine website, the focus was on Lukas Podolski. The Arsenal player only came on as a half-time substitute but his international future is being questioned.

Fear for the World Champions

Suddeutsche Zeitung paint a bad picture for the Germans after only taking one point from their last two Euro 2016 qualifying games.

Opinion: It’s time to move on from Wes Hoolahan
