Arsenal gave former Spurs star Gazza £50,000 towards medical bills

The former England midfielder also revealed that Spurs were not so generous.

FORMER SPURS MIDFIELDER Paul Gascoigne has revealed how North London rivals Arsenal paid £50,000 towards his medical care.

Despite never playing for the Gunners, the club agreed to pay for his medical treatment with the instructions coming from Arsene Wenger himself.

“I rang up (Arsenal) physio Gary Lewin and told him I wasn’t feeling great,” Gascoigne told The Sun.

“He said to go to hospital as he feared it was pneumonia. Wenger then agreed to arrange £28,000 to pay for treatment. Arsenal also paid £22,000 when I had hip treatment.”

The 47-year old, who was recently detained under the UK Mental Health Act, also revealed that Tottenham asked him to pay into their 2011 Champions League game against Real Madrid.

“I  got told they only had two tickets for £60.

“I’d have to watch from under the directors’ box with some players who played 30 years before me.”
