CONNACHT HAVE APPOINTED former captain Gavin Duffy to a full-time commercial role with the province.
The 32-year-old will begin work as a senior development executive in the commercial and marketing department next month.
Duffy, who has a commerce degree from NUIG, has been weighing up his options since retiring from rugby at the end of last season.
He has also been training with the Mayo senior football team, although he is not expected to feature in James Horan’s panel for the Connacht semi-final against Roscommon on Sunday.
“Working full time with the club I’ve been associated for so much of my life is ultimately the ‘dream job’,” he said.
“It’s definitely going to be a new challenge for me moving into the ‘real’ working world but I’m excited by it,” he added.
“I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the role and being a part of great success for the province.”
Bit harsh with the hash tag IMO. I have no doubt that using a former player as a person to drum up sponsorship and commercial partnerships is a very wide-spread practice in sports organisations.
Tongue firmly in cheek, Dennis, don’t worry. As noted in the piece, Gavin has a commerce degree and plenty of experience with the team!
How will he balance….work, gaa, and rugby…..
