PHOTOS: Emotions high as Twigg signs off in style

Gary Twigg soaked up a lap of honour after scoring twice on his final home appearance for Shamrock Rovers.

THE BANNER DRAPED over the East Stand wall asked: “When will we see your like again?”

As Gary Twigg signed off on his final home appearance for Shamrock Rovers in style, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win against UCD, it was a question which hung heavily around Tallaght Stadium.

Earlier this week, the Scot confirmed the worst-kept secret in the League of Ireland when he announced that he will leave the Hoops at the end of the season, calling time on four seasons with the club.

Substituted to a standing ovation with 15 minutes to play, Twigg returned at the final whistle to say one last goodbye with a lap of honour.

“What a emotional and great night,” he tweeted this morning. “Did not want to leave the pitch at the end, still cant believe that will be my last time playing at Tallaght.

“Want to thank everyone connected to shamrock rovers and to my team mates over the past 4 years #Irelandsnumber1″
