Gareth Bale named in Wales squad for friendly with Ireland

But he’s going to pick up an ‘injury’ before Wednesday, right?

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR WINGER Gareth Bale, strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, was today named in the Wales squad for next week’s friendly against  Ireland.

Bale has not played for Spurs since a 1-1 draw against Swindon Town on 16 July, having been ruled out of their subsequent pre-season fixtures due to injury. He sat out Spurs’ most recent friendly, a 5-2 loss to Monaco at the weekend, with a foot problem.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has also called up Cardiff City forward Craig Bellamy and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, who missed most of last season with two separate knee ligament injuries. Wales are due to tackle Giovanni Trapattoni’s Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium next Wednesday.

Wales squad:

Goalkeepers: Wayne Hennessey (Wolverhampton Wanderers/ENG), Boaz Myhill (West Bromwich Albion/ENG), Owain Fon Williams (Tranmere Rovers/ENG)

Defenders: Ben Davies (Swansea City), James Collins (West Ham United/ENG), Danny Gabbidon (Crystal Palace/ENG), Chris Gunter (Reading/ENG), Adam Matthews (Celtic/SCO), Sam Ricketts (Wolverhampton Wanderers/ENG), Neil Taylor (Swansea City), Ashley Williams (Swansea City)

Midfielders: Joe Allen (Liverpool/ENG), Jack Collison (West Ham United/ENG), Andy King (Leicester City/ENG), Joe Ledley (Celtic/SCO), Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal/ENG), David Vaughan (Sunderland/ENG), Jonathan Williams (Crystal Palace/ENG)

Forwards: Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur/ENG), Craig Bellamy (Cardiff City), Simon Church (Charlton Athletic/ENG), Hal Robson-Kanu (Reading/ENG), Sam Vokes (Burnley/ENG);
