GALWAY HAVE APPOINTED Kevin Walsh as their new senior football manager while Anthony Cunningham will stay on as senior hurling boss.
The pair were ratified at a county board meeting tonight with Walsh handed a three-year term and Cunningham given two more years. Both positions will be reviewed annually.
Having taken over at the beginning of 2012, Cunningham led the Tribesmen to the All-Ireland final in his first year, where they were defeated by Kilkenny in a replay.
Galway went out of this year’s championship with a loss to Tipperary in the qualifiers but, despite being challenged for the role by three other candidates, Cunningham returns with a backroom staff of Eugene Cloonan and Damien Curley.
Walsh, a two-time All-Ireland winner with Galway, replaces Alan Mulholland and brings in former Corofin manager Brian Silke and Sean Conlon (Barna). He previously managed the Sligo footballers.
