3 new faces in Galway hurling team to face Dublin in league opener

The teams clash in Pearse Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

GALWAY BOSS ANTHONY Cunningham has handed out three league debuts for Sunday’s clash with Dublin at Pearse Stadium.

Turloughmore’s Ronan Burke is named to start at full-back where he will be flanked by his clubmate Fergal Moore and Loughrea’s Johnny Coen.

In attack there are starts for Cathal Mannion at right half-forward and Jason Flynn at left corner-forward. Both Mannion and Flynn played for the Galway U21 side that lost last year’s All-Ireland semi-final to Clare while Flynn was on the starting side that won the 2011 All-Ireland minor title.

Galway have to plan without their Portumna contingent as they gear up for the All-Ireland club final on St Patrick’s Day while Niall Burke is ruled out through injury.

GALWAY: Colm Callanan (Kinvara); Fergal Moore (Turloughmore), Ronan Burke (Turloughmore), Johnny Coen (Loughrea); David Collins (Liam Mellowes), Iarla Tannian (Ardrahan), Aidan Harte (Gort); David Burke (St Thomas), Padraig Brehony (Tynagh Abbey-Duniry); Cathal Mannion (Ahascragh-Fohenagh), Jonathan Glynn (Ardrahan), Davy Glennon (Mullagh); Niall Healy (Craughwell), Conor Cooney (St Thomas), Jason Flynn (Tommy Larkins).
