Galway minors outclass Antrim to set up Limerick semi

The Tribesmen earned a comprehensive 17-point victory in Cavan today.

GALWAY MINORS COMFORTABLY overcame Antrim by a score of 2-20 to 0-9 in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship quarter-final in Cavan today.

The result means the Tribesmen have consequently set up a repeat of last year’s semi-final with Limerick.

They had already established a sizeable six-point advantage at half-time, as they led 1-09 to 0-6, with Brian Burke among the scorers for Galway.

In what was initially a closely fought encounter, points from Jamie Holland and Conor Whelan enabled Galway to secure a narrow 0-7 to 0-5 lead, before Jarlath Mannion’s goal helped them attain some breathing space.

Things went from bad to worse in the second half for Antrim, as Galway scored six unanswered points, including efforts from Burke, Whelan and Conor Shaughnessy.

Shortly thereafter, a second-half goal from substitute Jack Grealish ended the game as a contest, making it 2-16 to 0-7, before further points from Kevin McHugo and Joseph Mooney extended Galway’s considerable lead late on and consolidated their win.
