GAA: Oulart the Ballagh reach Leinster last 8 at Ballyhale's expense

The Wexford champions recovered from an early six-point deficit and held the Kilkenny side to one point in the second half.

WEXFORD HURLING CHAMPIONS Oulart-The-Ballagh are through the the Leinster club hurling quarter-finals after a tight 1-11 to 1-10 win over Ballyhale Shamrocks today.

Oulart held their illustrious Kilkenny opponents to just a single point in the second half after trailing 1-06 to 1-09 at the break in Wexford Park.

Andy home crowd advantage was quickly negated by Ballyhale as an early goal helped them race into a 1-03 lead before Oulart had registered their first score.

With Rory Jacob among the scorers the Wexford men responded with the next four points, but with James Cha Fitzpatrick in form Shamrocks outscored their opponents by six points to one before Oulart grabbed a much needed goal through Garret Sinnot.

David Redmond would take another chip out of the lead. It proved a vital score as opportunities dried up in the second half.

by the 40th minute, Ballyhales’s lead was down to one as Darren Nolan and Frank Cullen both pointed inside a minute. Despite a goal chance going begging and another Fitzpatrick score, the momentum had swung in their favour.

that score was to prove Ballyhale’s last in the Championship this year as Nolan reduced the gap to just one before a Nicky Kirwan 65 brought the sides all square with 10 minutes to go.

With hearts all around Wexford Park in mouths, Kirwan mis-hit another 65, but the Wexford men would not be denied and took finally took the chance to take the lead for the first time in injury time.
