SCARLETS WINGER MORGAN Stoddart is free to face Leinster after the ERC deemed that his red card in the defeat to Clermont-Auvergne last weekend was “sufficient punishment.”
Stoddart was controversially sent off at the Stade Marcel Michelin when Irish referee Peter Fitzgibbon showed him a second yellow card in the 37th minute.
The game was tied 13-13 at the time but Clermont took full advantage and romped home for a 49-16 win against the visitors’ 14 men.
Independent judicial officer Antony Davies ruled that neither of Stoddart’s yellow cards involved foul play directed at an opponent, and as a result, no additional sanction was necessary.
The 28-year-old is now eligible for Saturday’s match in Parc y Scarlets when Joe Schmidt’s defending European champions will look to extend their long unbeaten run in the competition.
