Six Nations 2012

France v Ireland won’t be played this weekend, organisers confirm

Six Nations organisers have not reached a decision on when France v Ireland will be played, with further meetings scheduled for tomorrow.

SATURDAY’S POSTPONED SIX NATIONS match between France and Ireland will not be rescheduled for this weekend, tournament organisers confirmed this evening.

The Six Nations council met today to discuss alternative dates for the game, which was called off minutes before kick-off on Saturday night when referee Dave Pearson ruled the Stade de France pitch unplayable.

The only remaining “free” weekend in the tournament calendar, 3/4 March, is one option being considered, although the Telegraph reports that the French Rugby League are unhappy with that date as it clashes with the Top 14 domestic programme, which does not end until 9 June.

A statement issued this evening said that the council hope to be in a position to give “comprehensive clarification” following further meetings tomorrow.

“Further to a meeting of the Six Nations Council today, we can confirm that the postponed RBS Six Nations France vs Ireland match will not take place this weekend (Feb 17/18/19).

“A further meeting of the Council will take place tomorrow to hopefully resolve the issues of rescheduling and ticket policy.  There are very significant logistical issues arising from this situation, and we would wish to be in a position to give a comprehensive clarification following the meeting.”
