EUROPEAN RUGBY BOSSES hope to find a new venue for next season’s Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup finals by the end of the month following France’s shock decision to withdraw as hosts.
The Federation Française de Rugby (FFR) took the decision amid ongoing uncertainty about the availability of the Stade de France, the ERC confirmed this afternoon.
The showpiece finals are due to take place on the weekend of 23-25 May 2014.
This year’s finals were held in Dublin with the RDS hosting the Amlin decider between Leinster and Stade Francais while a sell-out crowd of over 50,000 packed into the Aviva Stadium to watch Toulon beat Clermont Auvergne in a thrilling Heineken Cup final.
“The Board of ERC will now seek proposals from the other participating nations in the tournaments and will aim to confirm the host city and venues by the end of June,” a statement read.
