Florian Fritz sustains big knock to the head but returns to play after stitches

The French international centre was eventually replaced permanently after a worrying incident.

JONNY SEXTON’S RACING Métro are into the Top 14 semi-finals after a 21-16 win over Toulouse at the Stade Ernest Wallon.

The Irish out-half slotted seven penalties to give his side victory in a highly physical game. One of the major talking points from the barrages fixture was the injury and subsequent return to the pitch of Florian Fritz.

The France centre suffered a serious wound to the head after crashing into the knee of Racing lock Francois van der Merwe in the first half, and appeared to be extremely dazed by the incident. However, having had stitches in the changing rooms, Fritz re-entered the game in place of blood sub Gaël Fickou.

Fortunately, sense prevailed at half-time as Fritz was permanently replaced by Fickou in midfield.
