Cavan shocked Meath by six points at Páirc Tailteann in this evening’s Allianz NFL Division 3 clash.
The visitors led by 0-10 to 0-1 in front of a shellshocked home support in Navan.
Mickey Newman netted 30 seconds after half-time for Meath but this was another bitterly disappointing display from the Royals, who are deep in relegation trouble.
Gearoid McKiernan, Cian Mackey, Sigerson Cup winner David Givney and Niall McDermott were all in excellent form for Cavan.
McDermott was sent off for a second bookable offence towards the finish but that was just a minor blot on Cavan’s copybook.
Meath were scoreless until the 18th minute before Mickey Newman pointed a free and they failed to score from play in the first half.
Newan’s point was greeted by ironic cheers from the Meath faithful and they had little to shout about all night, although Graham Reilly did offer stout resistance as he picked off a couple of second half points.

Antrim and Fermanagh shared the spoils at Casement Park in tonight’s Allianz NFL Division 3 clash.
Kevin Niblock netted for Antrim in the first half and the sides were level at the break, 1-2 to 0-5.
Fermanagh’s Daryl Keenan and Antrim’s Sean McVeigh traded goals in the second half as nothing separated the Ulster rivals.
Fermanagh remain unbeaten in Division 3 while Antrim have collected two wins and a draw this season.
Before the game, a minute’s silence was impeccably observed for Pat Kerr, father of Antrim goalkeeper Chris, who bravely decided to line out in the match.
On his personal twitter page after the game, Kerr tweeted: “Emotional night. Gutted we couldn’t get the win. Minute’s silence meant a lot, as did being captain for the night. Roll on next week.”
Antrim finished the game with 14 men after Justin Crozier was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Waterford 0-6
Limerick 0-8
LIMERICK sit proudly on top of the Division 4 Allianz National Football League table after recording a hard-fought two-point victory over hosts Waterford at Fraher Field, Dungarvan, this evening.
Waterford remain in the hunt for promotion as they were unbeaten before tonight’s tie but this defeat is a setback to their hopes of moving up a tier.
But Maurice Horan’s Limerick are in a brilliant position to make the leap to Division 3 after they recorded a third victory from three League outings this season.
Limerick got off to a blistering start and they were 0-4 to 0-1 clear with 13 minutes of the first half remaining.
Waterford reduced the half-time deficit to two points, 0-2 to 0-4, but the Déise would pay a heavy price for overall profligacy as they registered 12 wides during the game.
Waterford were just a point behind with less than ten minutes remaining but Seanie Buckley’s late point steadied Limerick’s nerves and they held on for a priceless win.
