FIONA DOYLE MISSED out on her second medal at the World University Games by an agonising one-hundredth of a second.

After delivering a brilliant performance to win silver in the 100m breaststroke last week, Doyle had a chance to double down in the 50m final this afternoon.

But the Limerick swimmer fell just short in Kazan and finished fourth in a time of 31.40 seconds, 0.01 behind bronze medallist Valentina Artemeva of Russia.

Gold went to Russia’s Iulia Efimova who completed a 50m/100m gold medal double in a blistering time of 30.12 seconds, a new University Games record.

Petra Chocova of the Czech Republic was second in 30.99 seconds.

Andrew Meegan was also in action in the preliminary round of the 400m individual medley but, despite finishing third in his heat in 4:34.59, Meegan was well outside the qualifying time for this evening’s final.
