Final whistle: Premier League round-up

It was a bruising day of Premier League action. But who’ll check out with the points?

WHEN GARY LINEKER told Match of the Day viewers last night that they’d see all of last season’s top six in action, you suspected today’s action might be more low-key.

And so it was. But here’s what happened:

Fulham 1 Blackburn 1

These two languish in the Premier League relegation zone after a soporific 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Both clubs have made unimpressive starts to the campaign and today’s stalemate does little to lift spirits.

Fulham fell behind to a moment of class from Ruben Rochina against the run of play. He struck an unstoppable 18-yard drive in the 32nd minute.

The home side equalised six minutes later through Bobby Zamora’ though. The game ended, worryingly, after Schwarzer and Hoilett clashed heads in stoppage time.

The latter was forced off the field on a stretcher wearing a neck brace.

Norwich 0 West Brom 1

Norwich striker James Vaughan was taken to hospital after being left with a serious facial injury after catching an elbow late on in the 1-0 defeat to West Brom at Carrow Road.

Peter Odemwingie struck in the opening minutes to give the Baggies their first league this season.

Vaughan was flattened by a stray elbow – also in the dying moments – from Gabriel Tamas at a corner. Manager Paul Lambert told Sky: “James has gone to see the plastic surgeon at the minute, and it is a bad one. It has gone straight through the lip and they can’t just stitch it up, the specialist has got to look at it.”
