THE WORLD WRESTLING Entertainment (WWE) have announced Irish wrestler Fergal Devitt as their latest acquisition.

The 33-year-old, from Bray, County Wicklow, has been signed by professional wrestling’s top franchise for its NXT division after a career which recently flourished in Japan.

As a teenager, he moved to England to pursue a career in wrestling and spent time on the amateur circuits in the UK and the US before making a name for himself in New Japan Pro Wrestling as ‘Prince Devitt’.

After months of speculation, Devitt, who describes himself as a “chameleon in the ring”, reported to the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida yesterday.

This is something I’ve been looking forward to since I was maybe four or five years old,” Devitt told WWE.com.

“I grew up watching wrestling my whole life, so to get the chance to step in the ring that I’ve watched on TV so many times is a dream come true.

“I don’t consider myself anywhere close to the finished product, so I’m looking forward to this challenge and learning a new style.”
