IN THE FORTNIGHT since Anton Ferdinand became the unwitting subject of an allegedly racist tirade by Chelsea and England captain John Terry, he has contributed to both a police and FA inquiry into the incident and made clear his intention to pursue what be believes to be a just outcome.

Ferdinand’s unwillingness to drop the matter has, in addition to making him something approaching a hero to anti-racism campaigners, provoked some of the more unsavoury forces latent within British footballing culture.

Last week, Chelsea fans attending the club’s Champions League fixture with Belgian side Genk were heard chanting “Anton Ferdinand, we know what you are,” a charged reference to John Terry’s alleged branding of Ferdinand “a f***ing black c*nt”.

Today, the Sun confirms that Queens Park Rangers has since received a death threat intended for the 26-year-old.

Delivered by hand to the club’s London home, the letter’s contents were apparently so graphic that police immediately advised both the defender and his immediate relatives to take precautionary measures.

“Some family members are believed to have already taken the advice and installed [panic] alarms. They are a direct connection to a nearby station and mean a police car can arrive in minutes.”

Police are currently investigating the incident.
