Diary of a Fantasy Gaffer: What do all the PFA candidates have in common?

It’s squeaky bum time for Fantasy Football aficionados.

WHAT DO LUIS Suarez, Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, Eden Hazard, Steven Gerrard and Yaya Toure have in common?

That’s right, they’re the highest-scoring Fantasy Football performers in midfield and attack respectively this year.

Oh, and they also comprise the shortlist for this season’s PFA Player of the Year nominations. Coincidence? I think not.

Anyhow, a total of two of those players feature in my current team — Lallana and Suarez — though Toure was there until THAT injury (the one that’s pretty much destroyed Man City’s season if some people, namely Manuel Pellegrini, are to be believed) meant he had to go.

The Ivorian has been replaced by colleague Samir Nasri in midfield, while I finally got around to taking out Jay Rodriguez and picking teammate Rickie Lambert up front.

TheScore Machine currently lie on 605th position, hence we’ve got four cup finals (aka gameweeks) between now and the end of the season to earn a coveted place in the top 600. With James Curran’s ^ Thank Youuuuu ^ in first place on 2,264 points, I think we’re finally ready to concede that no, we cannot win the league, given that it’s just the 280 points that we’re trailing by.

Perhaps that’s what went wrong. Think of us as the anti-Mourinho side. Instead of playing down our chances, I’ve been irresponsibly hyping them up and putting more pressure on my players to perform.

Or maybe, I just didn’t have the foresight to pick the likes of Sturridge et al early on while their prices were relatively low. Yes, the latter suggestion seems more probable now that I think of it.
