FAI responds to criticism from fans by introducing new database for away tickets

Fans Direct will allow supporters to apply through a new database.

THE FAI HAS unveiled details of a new entity which will hopefully make it easier for Ireland fans to obtain away tickets in the future.

The Fans Direct will allow supporters who are not part of the 23 Republic of Ireland supporters’ clubs (ROISSC) to apply for tickets through a database.

“It will provide a route for independent supporters to apply directly and be considered within this group for away match tickets,” the statement reads.

“Tickets will be allocated within the Fans Direct database based on previous match attendance. It is intended that Fans Direct will be included in the current customer base considered for away ticket allocations, including existing ROISSCs, Season Ticket holders, Club Ireland members, FAI clubs and leagues, FAI Sponsors and the official FAI travel partner.”

The FAI added that it intends to use the system for the remainder of the Euro 2016 campaign.

Supporters’ group YBIG were heavily critical of the association for their handling of their ticket allocation for last week’s qualifier with Scotland at Celtic Park and staged a protest at the Aviva Stadium during the win over the US on Tuesday.

If you wish to apply for Fans Direct, email fansdirect@fai.ie or post your application to Fans Direct, Football Association of Ireland, National Sports Campus, Abbotstown, Dublin 15.
