FAI Cup round-up: More misery for Rovers, as Derry thump Mervue

Meanwhile, both sides were left frustrated, as St Patrick’s Athletic and Drogheda drew 0-0.

CARETAKER MANAGER STEPHEN Glass could not inspire Shamrock Rovers to a win tonight, in what was the club’s first game since Stephen Kenny’s departure as manager.

Rovers were beaten 2-1 by Shelbourne at Tolka Park, and had Ken Oman sent off just before half-time to compound their woes.

Two goals from Philip Hughes on 30 and 71 minutes respectively ensured another miserable evening for the visitors, who scored a consolation in second-half injury time through Sean Gannon.

Elsewhere tonight, Derry City secured a comprehensive 7-1 win over Mervue United at the Brandywell.

A hat-trick from Mark Farren, coupled with a brace from David McDaid and a goal apiece by Patrick McEleney and Ryan Curran made it a comfortable evening for Derry, though the visitors at least got one goal back, when Pat Hoban scored on 52 minutes.

Meanwhile, Dundalk managed to put their recent troubles in the league to one side, earning an impressive 1-0 win away to Bohemians.

Mark Griffin scored the game’s solitary goal after 75 minutes, earning them a surprise place in the semi-finals.

Finally, the tie between St Patrick’s Athletic and Drogheda at Richmond Park ended in a 0-0 stalemate, leaving both teams frustrated at the prospect of having to play a replay.
