FA Cup round-up: Chelsea go through as McClean stars for Sunderland

Chelsea, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday all followed Manchester United into the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

CHELSEA BOOKED THEIR place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 win over Portsmouth at Stamford Bridge, but the result flattered Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

Fernando Torres was chosen the spearhead the Blues attack but only once went close, Stephen Henderson saving his header from a Florent Malouda cross, and it was left to Juan Mata, Ramires (2) and Frank Lampard to seal the win.

Mata’s close range finish was the result of more good play from Malouda, while Ramires’ late double brought his tally for the season to eight.

The Brazilian then set up Lampard for his tenth goal of the season in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Sunderland produced a clinical display to beat Peterborough, with Irish youngster James McClean once again proving his worth to Martin O’Neill’s men.

Sebastian Larsson broke the deadlock shortly after the break with a curling free-kick, before the impressive McClean got on the end of the Swede’s cross to make sure of the win.

Finally, Sheffield Wednesday’s Chris O’Grady dumped West Ham out with a thumping late strike at Hillsborough.
