F1 driver convicted of grievous bodily harm

Adrian Sutil, formerly of the Force India team, stood accused of assaulting a Renault team executive in a Shanghai nightclub.

A GERMAN FORMULA 1 driver has been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm during a row with a team owner in a Shanghai nightclub.

Adrian Sutil, 29, was given an 18-month suspended sentence and fined €200,000 following a two-day trial in Munich, BBC reports.

Sutil and Renault F1 executive Eric Lux were among the guests at a party held in a Shanghai club following the Chinese Grand Prix last April.

Lux, the chief executive of Renault’s owner Genii Capital, suffered cuts during the incident and filed a criminal complaint against Sutil for physical assault and grievous bodily harm.

Sutil apologised for the incident last May, but did not give any details. He has since been replaced by Nico Hulkenberg as a driver with the Force India team.
