EVERTON WILL ERECT a permanent memorial at their home ground Goodison Park in memory of the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough.
“Plans at this moment are in the early stages,” head of media and communications Mark Rowan said.
“But we have a commitment to unveil a memorial to coincide with the 25th anniversary of that tragic day.”
The move follows discussions with an Everton fan whose brother was one of those killed in the stadium disaster at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
Rowan said: “Evertonians and the Club have always stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the families of the Hillsborough victims during their long fight for justice and we feel it is fitting that our home should have a permanent tribute to the 96.”
The FA last week announced their own plans to mark the 25th anniversary of the tragedy which falls on 15 April.
All games played in the Football League and FA Cup the preceding weekend (11-14 April) will kick off seven minutes later than scheduled, representing the six minutes played at Hillsborough as well as a minute’s silence.
