Europa League wrap: St Pat’s outclassed, Liverpool gain advantage

The Irish side were beaten 3-0 by Hannover, thus all but ending their hopes of advancing to the group stages.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC were beaten 3-0 by Hannover this evening at Tallaght Stadium in the Europa League third round first leg.

Leon Andreasen put the visitors ahead after six minutes, with a spectacular effort from distance.

Christian Pander doubled their advantage with just over 20 minutes remaining with a similarly ambitious effort, before Didier Ya Konan added to the hosts’ misery in the dying stages.

Consequently, the Irish side look set for a Europa League exit, barring a miracle in the second leg in Germany next week.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will go into their second leg tie in a healthy position.

They beat Gomel in Belarus this evening, thanks to a second half Stewart Downing goal, to give them a considerable advantage ahead of the return leg at Anfield next week.
