THOUGH THE MAJORITY of us were focused solely on the action from Group D last night, there were some stand-out moments elsewhere.
Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland made it two wins from two in Group F with a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Faroe Islands in front of a terrific crowd at Windsor Park. Gareth McAuley scored the first and Kyle Lafferty popped up with a neat near-post flick to grab the second.

Also in Group F, Finland and Greece played out a 1-1 draw in Helsinki, the visitors took the lead thanks to a wonderful strike from Nikos Karelis but Jarkko Hume equalised early in the second half.

Over in Group I, Serbia had former Manchester United winger Zoran Tosic to thank for rescuing a point from their clash in Armenia. He curled home a superb equaliser after 89 minutes shortly after the hosts had missed a penalty.
This was the Serb’s first qualifier and they’ll certainly be pleased with a point having seemed destined to suffer a defeat.
