ESPN's new documentary on Ireland's politically-charged 94 World Cup journey looks brilliant

The show will air in the States on Tuesday.

AHEAD OF THE World Cup, ESPN’s renowned 30 for 30 documentary series is specifically focusing on soccer-related stories.

And in January, it was announced that one of the programmes would look at Ireland’s 1994 World Cup journey and in particular, its relationship with the Troubles and the Loughinisland massacre.

A trailer has now been released for the show, which can be seen below, and the programme is set to air in the US on Tuesday.

You can hear more details about Ceasefire Massacre in our interview with its producer Trevor Birney, which will will be up on the site this Saturday.

Eddie McGoldrick. Went quickly from the sticker I couldn’t get my hands on to the one I had most of. Seriously, in about 10 days. Which is a long time when you’re 9.

Pint of Guinness comment again. Facts are that huge numbers of us moved to England so why wouldn’t they be part of the diaspora

It’s perfectly fair. If a guy is born and raised Irish then fair enough. Townsend says ‘we’ when commentating on England. He was our skipper. Cas was’nt an ounce Irish by his own admittance. He had to ask who the Taoiseach was after Italy in Rome 1990. There’s others that strike me as not believing they were Irish too but played to get a game at international level. Jack would take anybody to play for ireland, no matter how ‘Irish’ they were, we can’t argue with that

I’d take it again if it improves the team, no problem.

Looking forward to seeing this. Unfortunately politics and sport make strange but frequent bedfellows.

“Suddenly found themselves on the brink of qualification for the World Cup” – what a langer!

We had been on the brink many a times before that and qualified for the one previous while ultimately narrowly losing a quarter final to the hosts and then 3 times winners.

We also finished a point behind England to miss out on automatic qualification to the intervening European Championships despite being unbeaten in qualifying. Not to mention qualification for the 8 team Euro ’88.

    Suddenly me ……
