20 YEAR-OLD English defender Eric Dier is joining Tottenham with the North London side announcing the deal last night.
He makes the move from Sporting Lisbon and can play as a centre-back or defensive midfielder.
According to Sporting, he moves to Spurs for an estimated £4million.
“The player didn’t want to stay on any longer here, even for the same salary (as offered by Spurs),” the club said.
Dier was born in Cheltenham but moved to Portugal when he was seven and went through Sporting’s illustrious under-age system, signing professional terms in 2010. Despite his family returning to the UK the same year, Dier remained with Sporting and eventually made his breakthrough in 2012/2013 while excelling at various under-age grades for the England national side.
He follows Michel Vorm and Ben Davies as Tottenham’s signings so far this summer.
