Here's why Irish journalist Emmet Malone is the toast of Nicosia

APOEL are back in the Europa League thanks largely to one man.

IRISH TIMES SPORTS journalist Emmet Malone has today received an abundance of complimentary tweets from APOEL Nicosia fans.

APOEL were reinstated into the Europa League following Fenerbahçe’s expulsion via a wildcard draw in which the Irish journalist happened to pick out the Cypriot side.

They are consequently back in Europe, despite previously being beaten 3-2 on aggregate by Belgian team SV Zulte Waregem, and their fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Malone as a result.
