Ameobi scores after just eight seconds of second half to spark Newcastle comeback

It was the striker’s first Premier League goal.

TALK ABOUT AN impact substitution. Sammy Ameobi picked the most opportune moment to score his first Premier League goal. Oh, and it came after just eight seconds of the second half.

After being on the back-foot for much of the first half and trailing at the break to Emmanuel Adebayor’s header, Newcastle desperately needed a moment of inspiration and the substitute duly delivered.

Ameobi latched onto a ball over the top before slotting past Hugo Lloris to spark a shift in momentum before the visitors completed the turnaround thanks to Ayoze Perez’s header just before the hour mark.

It was Newcastle’s second successive win and it may just be the catalyst to spark a change in their fortunes under Alan Pardew.

As a Dub I’m very nervous. Of course it’s only the first game and Galway were beyond poor and I don’t think anyone can argue different, but Kerry looked very hungry and full of running. Incredible performance from the whole team. I wouldn’t be surprised if they win Sam if they keep that up!

@Tim Quigley: As shown by Cork today, training during the lockdown doesn’t count much if you haven’t great footballers to go with it. Kerry’s ball work was outstanding

Excellent performance by kerry. They were brilliant! Hopefully they’ll be able to maintain that type of style and performance throughout the coming year and not revert back to what was on show last year. Gaelic Football needs these types of games… Positive attacking football.
