EMMA O’REILLY, THE Dublin masseuse who helped to expose Lance Armstrong, says that her decision to speak out was never motivated by a desire to get back at the disgraced cyclist.
O’Reilly worked with Armstrong on the United States Postal team but left in acrimonious circumstances and later helped lift the lid on cycling’s systemic culture of doping.

The 42-year-old provided key testimony to a United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) investigation which last week described the team as running “the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen.”
“It was never about bringing Lance down,” O’Reilly said in an interview with Craig Doyle which will be broadcast on RTÉ tonight. “It was about cleaning up cycling.”
After ending her involvement with US Postal in 2000, O’Reilly contributed to the book L.A. Confidentiel, written by Sunday Times journalist David Walsh. The book presented evidence against Armstrong, who subsequently labelled her a “prostitute” and an “alcoholic”, O’Reilly claims.
The RTÉ interview comes a day after a host of Armstrong’s major sponsors, including Nike, distanced themselves from the American. The 41-year-old also stepped down as head of his Livestrong cancer awareness charity on Wednesday.
Watch Emma O’Reilly’s interview on the Craig Doyle Show, Thursday at 10.35pm on RTÉ 2 .
It a big/good person who makes mistakes and admits it. Glad she realised her mistake and came forward to tell about it.
Lance is going to be screwed soon, all his sponsors are talking about taking a $500m lawsuit against him. Hope he becomes bankrupt then sent to prison for perjury and I really hope he gets thrown off his charities board.
Not really. I couldn’t give the tiniest of shites about the man.
Poor everyone that cares though, poor everyone that bought into the artificial hype for so many yearts, and poor everyone that will buy into the idea that ostracizing a person exonerates them from their beloved stupidity.
I find Craig Doyle a bit irritating its nit for me , but i find it irritatinf the way RTE always manage to try mix , usually badly , current affair stories into entertainment shows , it’s almost always ends up as mostly cringe television , Miriam , Pat Kenny doing late late etc ,
Craig Doyle said in an interview recently that he came home for family reasons so people shouldn’t be allowed criticise him for his utterly rubbish presenting skills. I disagree with him
Awful interview from Doyle. That should have been tv gold being her very first broadcast interview. My God Doyle really is poor at his job and the whole programme is usually shite as well.
RTE just has a big wheel of presenters and subjects it jut spins at random these days. I don’t think they have a clue what they are doing. Blunderbuss broadcasting.
Hi Aoife, Niall’s comment is based on what he has read in the USADA report. Read the Sunday Times article from last week or the books that David Walsh or Paul Kimmage have written. Any chance you have some facts to support the opposite view, other than the ‘Lance never failed a drug test’, which isn’t correct.
Ok I’ll have a google for that article, thanks. I wasn’t contradicting Niall at all. Really just looking to read up on this and he seems to know what he’s on about. I know nothing about either side of the argument, apart from what I’ve read about the usada report. As far as I’m concerned it’s just a real shame that sport has fallen so low.

Not even a teensy winsy bit about revenge Emma?
The Craig Doyle show.. the bastion of exposure journalism.
Did this girl not withhold details until after she fell out of form with the team?
“It was never about bringing Lance down”
No shit…
Read up on the facts dude. Arsestrong destroyed her life. Your comment displays serious ignorance of facts.
All those sponsors that made billions of $ off his back? Yeah, real heroes those guys. His public hanging will be sponsored too I bet.
Poor old lance, eh mart_n?
Not really. I couldn’t give the tiniest of shites about the man.

I like your “everyone’s stupid” schtick, Martin. It has a lot going for it.
Craig Doyle is wearing a beard … It must be serious.

Anyway back to Lance.
What’s this about revenge is a dish best served cold.
Did you store it in the deep freeze Emma?
Clueless comment. Read up on what actually happened sometime.
Hi Niall. You seem to have some info about her story. Any chance of a link to the facts or a quick synopsis? :)
Hi Aoife, Niall’s comment is based on what he has read in the USADA report. Read the Sunday Times article from last week or the books that David Walsh or Paul Kimmage have written. I smell…….. MONEY
“You sick of putting up with everyday drugs cheats?”
That interview was cut and edited real amateurish, obviously RTE solicitors got to it first.
Is that the remains of a line of coke on the table? Oh Mr Doyle!
The remains!!
You must have seen some very large tables !
