Edgar stops Swanson in five-round brawl - but what will it mean for McGregor's title chances?

Edgar sends a message to Dana White as he positions himself for another shot at Aldo with impressive win.

FRANKIE EDGAR WAS determined to get the stoppage. With four seconds left in the fifth and final round, he got it.

Edgar dominated featherweight rival Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night Austin and staked his claim for the next shot at champion Jose Aldo.

The former lightweight champion locked in a rear naked choke in the final seconds and forced Swanson to tap at 4:56 — the latest finish in UFC history.

After improving to 17-4-1 with his third straight win, Edgar sent a message to UFC President Dana White.

Dana, you said you’d be watching – I hope you like what you see. I’m coming for that belt.

“If you don’t give it to me right away, I’m coming for it.

“And for all those people who are doubting me, you better buckle up. This is just the beginning. I’m just getting started.”

Edgar was ranked third in the division before Saturday night’s win, two places ahead of another man who has designs on the next shot at Aldo — Irish sensation Conor McGregor.

McGregor returns to the Octagon against Denis Siver on 18 January and believes that a win there would secure a title fight.

Edgar says the matchmakers don’t need to wait to see The Notorious’s next outing before deciding.

“It should be me. Based on my performance, based on what I’ve done in my career, it should be me. That’s it.”

If Conor beats Siver it’s his shot. Zuffa profits are down 40% this year and they want to make money. Gary Cook already said a few times that they’re in talks for a stadium event in Dublin in the Summer if Conor beats Siver. If Frankie got the shot against Aldo and lost and Conor happened to be wrestlefked by Mendes or Lamas in the meantime , Aldo has nobody to fight at Featherweight. Lamas had nothing for him last time out and it’s way too soon for Mendes. They have a guaranteed huge success in Aldo/McGregor in the Summer and if Conor lost they have Aldo/Edgar right after. If Conor won then that’s a stadium event in Dublin as well as a stadium rematch in Brazil. There is no way the UFC are giving that shot to anyone but Conor now. All he has to do is beat Siver in January and it’s done.

If Aldo beat Edgar why do you think he’d fight in Ireland when he’d sell out a stadium in Brazil?

Given all the talk about the stadium event in Ireland from all sides I would imagine that would be the logical thing that would happen.. I’m not Dana White, Joe Silva or Sean Shelby, your guess right now is as good as mine

Mcgregor would sell out the Aviva against Chad Mendes or Edgar.. I just dunno why Aldo would agree to a fight in Ireland but as you said neither of us are Dana White etc

Edgar will have to be next up for Aldo. We might see McGregor against Mendes. If Edgar loses to Aldo then the winner of McGregor-Mendes should fight Aldo.

Its a safety and logistic thing if it rains fights have to stop that’s it and that can’t happen at a live event and name the last ppv title fight that has happened in Europe.conner should get the title fight if he beats siver but it will be Brazil or las vegas

Ever hear of a roof for the ring? Like the canopy thing there was for the Froch vs Groves fight in Wembley.

A stadium show in Ireland is not going to happen the only place the ufc said they would ever do a open stadium was Abu Dhabi where it’s like 99% sure it’s not going to rain
