THEY SAY YOU should never meet your heroes but we can’t wait to host John Giles and Eamon Dunphy at TheScore Towers this week.
Cadbury have enlisted Ireland’s two favourite pundits as part of their #FreeTheJoy campaign, and we have exclusive access to them. The new TV ad featuring Giles and Dunphy will debut tonight but we’ve got the first look below. It’s really something!
We’re currently tidying up around the place ahead of their visit on Friday afternoon and we’re looking for your help on what to quiz these two legends about:
When was the last time they argued off-air and why?
What does Eamon expect from Roy Keane’s next book?
What do they make of young pretenders like Kenny Cunningham and Richie Sadlier?
Fruit and Nut or plain milk chocolate?
The floor is yours and the best question will receive a retro Ireland jersey signed by both Giles and Dunphy.
Ask Johnny Giles why did we have to stop calling him Johnny and start calling him John. He was always known as Johnny and suddenly he became John. Its a mystery to me! Ask Eamonn can we call him Eamo!
I would bow down before them and proclaim my undying admiration for the two greatest soccer pundits in the history of the beautiful game, they are fantastic! It’s a shame every Saturday night while watching match of the day having to fast forward the banal analysis from the drones on the beeb! I tape it actually and watch it on Sunday!
Seriously though my question is very valid and should be asked, John Delaney earns more than Barack Obama does, what exactly has he done to earn such an astronomical salary, he earns more than the head of most football association CEO’s in Europe, why doesn’t he promote the domestic game, why is he never seen at a league of Ireland game, but has no problem going on all expenses paid foreign junkets, goes to Poland for the Euros and tries to make out he’s the good guy by buying a round of drinks for Irish fans while Monaghan United went bust.
Ask them to rate your sports writers during the world cup.
incidentally, I thought they were excellent. It was one of the first times I didn’t stray outside the journal.ie on any given topic.
I loved the fact the sports writers at no point gave away the scorelines in the headlines, and so although I couldn’t turn on the TV or radio, or read ANY other publication during the WC if I hadn’t seen a match prior. I could, in fact, read the Journal and not have a score spoiler. That’s very commendable.
But the writing itself, on the WC, was also very good.
Ask them if either of them, when they couldn’t see a match they’ve recorded, have a media blackout so they wouldn’t get the result beforehand and could enjoy the game with suspense.
Do we really care what gilsey and dunphy say anymore. Extremely tired of the stantard cliches from giles and usual ridiculous dunphy statements. I agree they are better than staided comments from uk commentators but surlely we can do better.
What is the panel like after there has been a big argument and then it goes off air? Do you keep arguing or do you just sulk and pretend each other doesn’t exist?
When the hell are they going to retire their tired minds , tired looks and tired opinions to some fresher minds, fresher looks and fresher opinions.. the game has changed drastically since this pair of dinodaurs played.dinosaurs.
Why is it that Eamonn constantly contradicts himself on players, managers and generally everything?
From a great player, to a rubbish player or vice versa, he said that in the early days about ronaldo, he even said O’Shea is good before our last international. O’Shea shouldn’t even be playing football at championship level, its farce someone pays O’Shea. It just shows you there are alot of people involved in football and punditry that know zip about football..As for Eammo its like he has no concept of how to identify truly world class players, he eulogizes over Rooney when expression should not be used to describe his ability or performances, 1 outstanding season since he joined United, He should not be mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo, Messi, Zidane,Edwards, Charlton, McGrath, Maldini,Di Stefanio, Xavi, Iniesta, even less so Henry, Van Nistlerooy, Falcao even in his role, If i was RTE Dunphy would of got his P45 sometime in the 90′s when he lost the plot. Atleast there is one good Pundit in Richie Saddler coming through, talks sense.
Not sure when this is happening, but whether its before or after the Scottish referendum the same question sort of applies.
How do you think Scottish independence would affect the number of Scottish players that would look at Ireland as an option? Is it possible their sense of Irish root pride may dwindle now if Scotland and what it means to be Scottish totally changed?
Could this referendum have an affect on our potential pool of players?
If John Delaney approached both of you in the morning about taking over the Irish job in roles similar to Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane would you both consider it?

…and how much money the Ireland for Europe chancers gave him
Ask Johnny Giles why did we have to stop calling him Johnny and start calling him John. He was always known as Johnny and suddenly he became John. Its a mystery to me! Ask Eamonn can we call him Eamo!

I second this one.
Ha the two lads selling their souls!!!
Ask them Who is the biggest spoofer in football today?
^——– THIS!
Ask them what life is like with out Bill.
Is there life without bill……
Have they considered a relationship?
I’ve changed my mind, what was Bill like during the advertisements?
If they had their pick of any football team today who would they play for and why
The whereabouts of Clinton Morrison
Seriously though my question is very valid and should be asked, John Delaney earns more than Barack Obama does, what exactly has he done to earn such an astronomical salary, he earns more than the head of most football association CEO’s in Europe, why doesn’t he promote the domestic game, why is he never seen at a league of Ireland game, but has no problem going on all expenses paid foreign junkets, goes to Poland for the Euros and tries to make out he’s the good guy by buying a round of drinks for Irish fans while Monaghan United went bust.
I see John Delaney at plenty of youth games. In my opinion he has done a great job as CEO. Think back to what the FAI was years ago.
The most overated/underated Irish internationals….
Who would they appoint as their successors?
Whose the best singer
Ask them did Cadbury’s line them up for any singing, dance and mime classes before they shot the ad and if they did, was it worth the money?
Ask them how they became civil towards each other after years of tension…
How can I unsee that advert?
I can’t remember the last time I saw an ad that was as truly AWFUL as that one.
Top 5 Irish managers in order.
Did eamon fall out with Roy during the book ….. cos it seemed liked that !
If I could ask Dunphy one question it would be… Does he genuinely believe most of the shite he says or is it just to be controversial.
Ask them can they see Roy Keane’s influence at Villa and Ireland and if yes in what way ?
Thanks
Ask Dunphy who his favourite headbanger is.
Ask Eamo the reason for his great display for Shamrock Rovers in the game against Galway Rovers at Terryland Park in 1978?
Was it something Gilesy put in his half-time cup of tea?
Ask them to rate your sports writers during the world cup.
incidentally, I thought they were excellent. It was one of the first times I didn’t stray outside the journal.ie on any given topic.
I loved the fact the sports writers at no point gave away the scorelines in the headlines, and so although I couldn’t turn on the TV or radio, or read ANY other publication during the WC if I hadn’t seen a match prior. I could, in fact, read the Journal and not have a score spoiler. That’s very commendable.
But the writing itself, on the WC, was also very good.
So, there you go Journal.
Ask them about spoilers!
Ask them if either of them, when they couldn’t see a match they’ve recorded, have a media blackout so they wouldn’t get the result beforehand and could enjoy the game with suspense.
The ad is hilarious! Ask them how long it took to shoot the Ad, looks like they had great laugh.
Would they consider themselves close friends now?
Ask them why they think why the head of the FAI ignores the domestic league and allows it to rot whilst earning an obscene salary
Yes – ask them how they would improve the domestic league
Who was a better player, Eamonn, Liam or John? Then just sit back and watch
Do we really care what gilsey and dunphy say anymore. Extremely tired of the stantard cliches from giles and usual ridiculous dunphy statements. I agree they are better than staided comments from uk commentators but surlely we can do better.
The uk have better commentators you idiot
Conor – other than Gary Neville, who are you talking about? Hansen? Shearer? Savage? or is it Merson? Phil Thompson? Dwight Yorke??
The UK have better match commentators but not better studio pundits, in my opinion. What a trio they were, Bill, Eamonn and John!
Ask them if they dance like that in Lillie’s? Great ad, keep dancing boys!
As them to do a weekly piece for The Score.
What player would lick themselves if they were a bar of chocolate?

Wisps or chomp?
I miss the orange chomps, they were special
After so long on the rte payroll would they not give some new talent a chance. Like the off the ball guys.
Well said but the original off the ball lads mcdevitt an earley would be excellent in saying that I still enjoy Giles,Brady and Dunphy gonna miss Bill
We’re all going to end up dancing like that someday, fact
Ask them did they enjoy making clowns of themselves for that ad?
Up for the shift?
I love Dunphy and Giles (and Brady), but this ad is just horrible. Looks like it was conceived/edited by the child playing football.
The ad is actually hilarious . Dunphy lip syncing “I can boogey” lol another question you could ask is who would win in a brio throwing contest ?
Jaysus lol biro not brio. Lol
Also, can you ask JJ, how often he travels to the UK to watch matches (on average).
He lives on the UK. Has an English wife

Jaffa cake cake or biscuit?
When the hell are they going to retire their tired minds , tired looks and tired opinions to some fresher minds, fresher looks and fresher opinions.. the game has changed drastically since this pair of dinodaurs played.dinosaurs.
Ask Eamonn what he thought of the reference to him , in Roddy Doyle’s book, ” The Van ” !
Ask Eamon what does he think of Mayo football?
Lads,
After showing us your likeness for Cadburys Chocolate could you please tell us who is the Fruit and who is the Nut?
Betwee Dunphy lip synching and Giles reading the auto cue, it’s all but cringeworthy …. only in Ireland….
….. for a game of table-soccer!
Why is it that Eamonn constantly contradicts himself on players, managers and generally everything?
From a great player, to a rubbish player or vice versa, he said that in the early days about ronaldo, he even said O’Shea is good before our last international. Ask Eamonn where Lorenzo the ended up after his shambolic World Cup performances…..

Not sure when this is happening, but whether its before or after the Scottish referendum the same question sort of applies.

If John Delaney approached both of you in the morning about taking over the Irish job in roles similar to Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane would you both consider it?
Ask Giles why he was such a fan of short corners usually taken by him when he was player manager and they never worked
