RTÉ FOOTBALL PUNDIT Eamon Dunphy does not believe David Moyes is the man to arrest the slump that has Manchester United in danger of completely missing out on European football next season.
Speaking on 2FM’s Game On, the former Ireland international showed some sympathy for the Scot who is struggling in his first season as United boss. The league champions lost 3-0 to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday and are 18 points behind league-leading Chelsea.
Dunphy admitted it may be rash to dismiss Moyes after only six months in charging. He said, as a football fan, he would deplore such a dismissal. However, when he looked at United’s long-term future, Dunphy reasoned that Moyes was not the man to steer the team out of troubled waters.
He said, “They will have to get big players and spend big money. Would you give David Moyes £200m or £300m to spend? The answer is no.”
If he gets the money and makes a mess out of [the transfers], as he has made a mess of the club so far, the money is gone, you won’t be in the Champions League the next season and you’re in a mess.”

Dunphy also criticised United chief executive Edward Woodward for his role in two underwhelming transfer windows and said the Glazer family, who own the club, have a crucial decision to make. He added, “If I were the Glazers, I’d sack him. Could you trust him with the future of Manchester United for the next five years?”
“I’m reluctant to say it,” continued Dunphy, “but if I were on the [United] board, I’d do it.” The pundit also stated his belief that United ‘have no good players’, have an old squad and that no football manager would be able to right United’s course in less than three seasons.
He wasn’t outstanding at United. Just because Moyes makes Ferguson look like a genius doesn’t mean Fergie was able to bring out the very best in Ronaldo. He visibly improved at Real.
Yeah he did improve at Real, he was always going to improve, just like he improved every season he was at OT, it’s something the best footballers do, just get better. It’s like saying “Zlatan wasn’t outstanding at AC Milan because he was visibly improved at PSG.” Ronaldo was awesome at Utd, he is better now, but he didn’t have a lot to improve upon, he already won world player of the year.
Full of Sh!te Eamon , yea sack him now and next year if he does actually manage to turn things around you’ll be saying you always thought he was the best man for the job .
United need to take a leaf out of Arsenal’s book. Financially stable, great manager, loyal fans, great stadium and scoring goals for fun. Probably gonna win the treble this year
Can I just ask a question as a man utd fan. What fluent english speaking managers (like mourinho) that are top class are out there ? All we need is a sturdier back 4, making do with jones and smalling, my opinion of rafael has changed again based on the pool game, he was consistent last season but still plays like a headless chicken. We need 3 world class midfielders who can turn defence into attack and grab the game by the balls. We also need someone else in the front third who can create something from nothing, like Torres in his prime or aguero now. And for god sake can we get someone who can score from outside the box. From watching all of uniteds games this season we have no one able to take a touch and strike from 30 yards, ashley young doesn’t count. Letting pogba go was where fergie fuc#ed up, doesn’t look like there’s much coming from the youth teams either, in the line of prosperous midfielders!
Eoin so all you need is a sturdier back four, a whole new midfield, striker and Gerrard/Lampard like goalscoring midfielder? Are you sure THAT’S ALL?? They have to be available first, assume the manager and chairman identify the right ones (Fellaini?) and try to get top players to a club with no European football? Ironically, Everton look the most likely for the Europa spot.
I could never stand him he is hypocrite. I stopped respecting him when he was asked who next Irish manager should be after McCarthy should be? N he wouldn’t answer. why?? Cos the idiot knew if he put his name to a manager then he couldn’t slate him in future like others. He is a scruffy drama queen
Go wan will ya? He is probably the more honest, open pundit on TV, you may not agree with him all the time, but he is usually the guy saying with people are thinking…
Anybody could do his job FFs. How hard is it to be drunk n be a critic ? I don’t live in Ireland anymore n miss it loads but I def don’t miss listenin to his tripe n looking at his wooly jumpers. ;)
Who believes Moyes could win anything? Those who don’t now include….many first team players…most fans….Ryan Giggs ….Kevin Sheedy (coach at Everton)….. Layton Baines who refused to join his old manager at United…. The glazers……
From Football365.com – “Since arriving in 2012, Rodgers has spent a net sum of £71million at Anfield, whilst Moyes has spent £68million net since joining United last summer” and Moyles took over the Champions.
Anyone read the star today?? Eamon with is big talk bout Sunderland facing up with an Fa cup semi final v arsenal that cud define there season with them going same way as wigen last season winning the FA cup and getting relegated, look at the fixtures u fool ,

OMG. Dunphy actually criticises Man U… Definitely one of the signs of the apocalypse.
To be fair Dunphy also once said Ronaldo is not a top player….!
He wasn’t outstanding at United. Just because Moyes makes Ferguson look like a genius doesn’t mean Fergie was able to bring out the very best in Ronaldo. He visibly improved at Real.
The last 2/3 years at United Ronaldo was world class
He won the Ballon d’Or at United you halfwit
Yeah he did improve at Real, he was always going to improve, just like he improved every season he was at OT, it’s something the best footballers do, just get better. It’s like saying “Zlatan wasn’t outstanding at AC Milan because he was visibly improved at PSG.” Ronaldo was awesome at Utd, he is better now, but he didn’t have a lot to improve upon, he already won world player of the year.
Blame Ferguson. He selected Moyes.
And bought most of those players
Yeah, blame the guy who gave you all the joy over the years, right.
The story at the moment is that Moyes is making Ferdinand and Carrick watch tapes of Osman and Jagielka.
That is absolute insanity.
Did they make a porn flick?
Full of Sh!te Eamon , yea sack him now and next year if he does actually manage to turn things around you’ll be saying you always thought he was the best man for the job .
Don’t think he will have to worry about that.
United need to take a leaf out of Arsenal’s book. Financially stable, great manager, loyal fans, great stadium and scoring goals for fun. Probably gonna win the treble this year
Ha treble!! Brilliant
I did actually laugh out loud at that one. Remember the Arsenal dartboard around 10 years ago?
Did you just use the words loyal fans and arsenal in the one sentence? Mon now!
I think Sean is taking the piss folks. Sarcasm
Arsenal fans have gone 9 years without silverware, so yes, they are loyal
Can I just ask a question as a man utd fan. What fluent english speaking managers (like mourinho) that are top class are out there ? Back four – 2 = 2
Midfield 3 including a lad who can score outside = 3
Front player = 1
That’s 6 from my maths
Most are calling for 11, I say we need 6. Howedes and hummels etc
Who is this great man dunphy? I think I recognise him fm the homeless shelter
Hes the guy you agreed with when it suited you….
Huh???
I could never stand him he is hypocrite. I stopped respecting him when he was asked who next Irish manager should be after McCarthy should be? N he wouldn’t answer. why?? Cos the idiot knew if he put his name to a manager then he couldn’t slate him in future like others. He is a scruffy drama queen

Oh lie down will ya
Utd just need to sign tony hibbert and Steven Naismith.
Emile Heskey and Kevin Philips are top of United’s shopping list this summer…!
10 mill for Anichebe, he’s young, and might get better one day.
Who believes Moyes could win anything? Those who don’t now include….many first team players…most fans….Ryan Giggs ….Kevin Sheedy (coach at Everton)….. Layton Baines who refused to join his old manager at United…. The glazers……
Luhg….. sack the board never mind moyes. Club is suffering no money no transfers. Glazers keep taking theyre share.
No money?
We’re Fellaini and Mata free transfers, or would you mind checking that for me?

He says Sack Moyes, yet he says that United have no team, an aging team. You ever think that its not all Moyes fault Dunphy????
