Eamon Dunphy's autobiography is to be published in October, baby

And ‘The Rocky Road’ will not disappoint, the publishers promise.

THIS PROMISES TO be a great book, not a good book.

After a life in which Eamon Dunphy has been a professional footballer, a well-known journalist, a TV personality, a controversial soccer pundit and much more in Irish public life, he’s set to release a much-anticipated autobiography.

Penguin have today announced that they have acquired The Rocky Road, which will be released in October.

“I’m delighted that Penguin is publishing a book that I’ve spent a long time working on,” the RTE soccer pundit said today.

Tony Lacey, publishing director at Penguin added: “Eamon’s autobiography has been long-awaited, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. The Rocky Road moves seamlessly between  the private and the public, with extraordinary stories from the worlds of football, politics  and journalism, describing a life that has been anything but prosaic.”

Dunphy played football for Millwall and Ireland before making the transition to journalism with the Sunday Independent. He anchored the Last Word on Today FM and has also worked as a broadcaster on Newstalk and RTE radio. Football fans in this country will know and love him best as past of the Montrose football panel which has sparked debate since the 1980s.

“Since Eamon’s return to Ireland after his retirement from football nearly 30 years ago he has been a feature of Irish life. It is a privilege to be given the honour of publishing this wonderful autobiography,” said Michael McLoughlin, Penguin Ireland MD.

Dunphy wrote the acclaimed Only A Game? about his life as a journeyman footballer in Britain, biographies of Matt Busby and U2 as well as ghosting Roy Keane’s autobiography a decade ago.
