A SECOND HALF goal from Paddy Hoban handed Dundalk a precise away victory in the Louth derby at Hunky Dorys Park this evening.
The Lilywhites thought the had scored a legitimate goal before half-time but were up in arms when Hoban’s finish was disallowed as the linesman judged that the ball had crossed the line when it didn’t look near it.
Ultimately, however, it made little difference as Hoban struck cleverly by Drogs keeper Michael Schlingermann with 16 minutes on the clock. The away side had John Mounteney sent off late on when he was shown a second yellow card by referee Alan Kelly for diving but managed to hold out.
It ended 2-2 when the sides met earlier in the season and this is Dundalk’s first win in the derby in seven attempts. Stephen Kenny’s side sat in fourth place going into the game with their rivals a further 8 points back in sixth, but move to within two points of Sligo Rovers after the victory.
