ORIEL PARK WILL tonight host a meeting as Dundalk fans attempt to raise much-needed funds for their crisis-hit club.
On the brink of collapse, the board today announced that Dundalk FC is officially up for sale and that they hope to attract a suitable buyer to keep the Louth outfit afloat.
The Dundalk FC Community Trust, a group of supporters intent on saving their club, was registered as a formal entity last week and is in the process of putting the plans in place to make a formal expression of interest and take control.
However, in order to bring in the amount of money needed, a discussion on possible fundraising initiatives will take place this evening at 8.15pm.
The meeting is not just for fans of the club but anyone who is willing to help out,” said Dean Arrowsmith, who was recently let go by the Lilywhites. “The Trust is looking to take over and we want everyone singing off the same hymn sheet, that’s why it is being held.”
They plan to set up a bank account to deal with donations, there will be a text line up and running in the next few days for people to contribute through their phones, while a host of ex-players have offered to donate jerseys and the likes to the cause.
“There will be a lot more initiatives in the next couple of weeks,” Arrowsmith added. “We hope to get some businesses on board and the situation will become a lot clearer after tonight.
“Some fans feel animosity towards (owner) Gerry Matthews but tonight is only about keeping the club alive as we don’t want to find ourselves in the same situation as Monaghan United.”
