Dublin 4-13
Waterford 1-17
DUBLIN WILL BE playing Division 1A hurling next season after they triumphed in today’s relegation final at Walsh Park.
In the process Anthony Daly’s side ended their record of not having won in their last four league trips to Waterford.
The victory is a huge boost to Dublin as they survived after claiming promotion from Division 1B last year. But new Waterford boss Derek McGrath has experienced the disappointment of relegation in his first season in charge.
Dublin were ahead 2-6 to 1-8 at the interval with Paul Ryan and Colm Cronin bagging their goals while Darragh Fives found the net for Waterford. But Waterford suffered a setback when they reduced to fourteen men after Shane O’Sullivan was sent-off.
Dublin made their numerical advantage tell in the second-half. 2013 Allstar Danny Sutcliffe struck to the net to give them a boost and then he fired home his second goal to push them into a 4-7 to 1-10 lead.
Dublin held off the challenge of Waterford from there to run out five-point winners and stave off relegation.
