DUBLIN CRUSHED CARLOW by 31 points in tonight’s Leinster U21 football quarter-final at Carlow IT.

Last year Dublin had 37 points to spare over the Barrowsiders in their opening round clash before then surprisingly exiting against Longford in the last eight. But Dessie Farrell’s side began their 2014 campaign in impressive fashion tonight with a convincing victory despite Paul Mannion and Cormac Costello both being unavailable.

Dublin coped without those attacking stars with Michael Deegan striking 1-6 and Ciaran Kilkenny grabbing 0-5. Conor McHugh and Shane Carthy were others to weigh in heavily in the scoring stakes.

Dublin began strongly to surge 0-9 to 0-1 in front at the end of the opening quarter. They then lead by 1-12 to 0-2 at the interval with senior defender Eric Lowndes raising the first green flag of the game just before the break.

The one-way traffic continued in the second-half with Deegan bagging their second goal in the 39th minute and they were in front by 2-20 to 0-2 entering the final quarter. The game petered to it’s inevitable conclusion from there and Dublin ran out winners by 31 points.
