No Turkish delight as Drogheda v Trabzonspor friendly rained off

Some fierce rain out there in Dublin today.

TONIGHT’S FRIENDLY BETWEEN Drogheda United and Turkish giants Trabzonspor at Tallaght Stadium has been called off.

Following a day of heavy rain in Dublin, referee Derek Tomney took the decision to cancel the game due to health and safety reasons.

The match, which was due to be broadcast live on Setanta Ireland, had been organised as part of efforts to improve diplomatic and trade relations between the Trabzon region and the Irish North-East.

Drogheda United and Trabzonspor have officially been “sister clubs” since September 2010. Members of the Trabzon Chamber of Commerce as well as other business figures and dignitaries were scheduled to travel with the Turkish club this week.
