Drogheda appoint Darius Kierans as caretaker boss

Robbie Horgan’s replacement will take charge for his second stint at the club.

DARIUS KIERANS HAS been confirmed as the new caretaker boss of Drogheda United following Robbie Horgan’s departure as manager on Tuesday.

It is Kierans’ second stint in the role, after he took charge following Alan Mathews’ resignation in 2010, but had to subsequently step down, as he had not earned all his coaching badges at the time.

Speaking following the news, Kierans said:

“I am very happy to step in to help out the club pending the appointment of a new manager. I have a lot of respect for the board, having worked with them previously, and I had been working alongside Robbie Horgan this season as manager of the U19s so I know the players very well. I have told the board that I will give the role 100% for as long as it takes to get the right person for the job”.

In addition, former Ireland under-21 international Neale Fenn has been named as assistant manager.
