Doyle and O'Shea ready for second leg

Giovanni Trapattoni says that Kevin Doyle and John O’Shea are likely to start against Estonia on Tuesday.

KEVIN DOYLE AND John O’Shea are both fit and ready for Tuesday as Ireland look to finish off Estonia and cement their place at Euro 2012.

O’Shea was forced out of last night’s 4-0 win in Tallinn with a hamstring strain while Doyle served a one-game suspension, but manager Giovanni Trapattoni said this evening that both should start the second leg.

“He is training well,” Trapattoni said when asked about O’Shea. “Tomorrow I hope there’s no surprise.”

Damien Duff is the only major injury concern from last night’s game. The Fulham winger hurt his ribs when he clashed with team-mate Glenn Whelan, but a scan this morning showed nothing worse than a bit of swelling.

A decision will be taken on his fitness tomorrow.

One man who will definitely miss Tuesday’s game is striker Leon Best who has returned to Newcastle for further treatment on the groin injury which ruled him out of the trip to Tallinn.

Best joined up with the team in Malahide this morning but was released soon after by the team’s medics.

“We spoke with him and spoke with the doctor,” Trapattoni said. “We told him to go home.”

We said thanks because you wish to come with us, but now you’re injured and we don’t need you for this game. It’s best that you go back to your club and finish your treatment.

Trapattoni will make a final decision on his team over the next 48 hours before confirming it on Monday afternoon.
