Mourne men progress to Ulster hurling final

DOWN HAVE BOOKED their place in the Ulster SHC final after winning this afternoon’s semi-final replay against Derry by a margin of six points.

The teams finished level on points after an entertaining affair at the Athletic Grounds last weekend but it was a much more one-sided encounter the second time around.

Derry had to play with a man down from the 27th minute after Aaron Kelly, who had just scored a goal, was given his marching orders for a clash with Paddy Hughes and they trailed by four points at half-time.

Paul Braniff scored 12 points on the day and got the second half going with two well-taken points before the Oak Leaf men responded thanks to substitutes Paddy Henry and Mark Craig but, with 14, they were unable to make up the deficit.
