Joe Hart excellent display could not stop Bayern Munich from beating Man City last night. Kerstin Joensson

Do you agree with our Champions League team of the week?

Joe Hart, David Alaba and Gareth Bale all feature in our best XI from week one.

Joe Hart (Man City): GRANTED, HE LOOKED nervy at times, but ultimately he still deserves enormous credit for his performance, which almost earned Man City an unlikely point owing to a string of excellent saves. However, the England goalkeeper couldn’t do anything about Boateng’s last-minute winner.

Gerard Pique (Barcelona): One of the few positives from an unconvincing 1-0 Barcelona win over Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia, Pique kept a clean sheet at the back and scored the only goal of the game.

Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich): Always looked assured and commanding at the back and came up with the all-important winner late on to give Bayern a deserved victory over Man City.

Juan Bernat (Bayern Munich): The youngster distinguished himself going forward in a Bayern side that created several chances, while also always looking solid defensively.

Julian Draxler (Schalke): Constantly posed a threat and created the equaliser as a depleted Schalke earned a surprise point away to Chelsea.

Sergi Samper (Barcelona): There’s been plenty of hype about the 19-year-old and his debut against APOEL suggested he can back up this talk, hitting more passes than anyone else on the pitch and generally standing out despite what was ultimately a disappointing display from the Catalan side.

Gareth Bale (Real Madrid): The Welshman scored a wonderful goal and was influential throughout, as Real Madrid ran rampant against Basel.

David Alaba (Bayern Munich): The most eye-catching member of a Bayern midfield that dominated Premier League champions Man City.

Yacine Brahmi (Porto): The Porto star scored an impressive hat-trick as his side thrashed BATE Borisov 6-0.

Gervinho (Roma): The ex-Arsenal striker hit a superb brace as Roma outclassed CSKA Moscow.

Carlos Tevez (Juventus): The former United star was omitted from Argentina’s World Cup squad in the summer, but he looked in top form on Tuesday, scoring twice as Juventus beat Malmo 2-0.

Subs: Ralf Fahrmann (Schalke), Ricardo Carvalho (Monaco), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund), Francesco Totti (Roma), Klaus Jan Huntelaar (Schalke).
